New:
visit the HVT&C
Forum, including the HVT&C Virtual Carpool.
For those who didn't make the March meeting, we had a wonderful program.
Minda Zetlin spoke about her new book "Telecommuting for Dummies",
including what telecommuting is, what type of person is most effective
as a telecommuter and how to set-up a "telecommuting plan" and
sell it to your company or manager. Several people, including Minda, came
to the meeting in their bathrobes and PJ's. A great way to break up "cabin
fever"....
Minda also brought some real "telecommuters" with her to the
program, Kathi Vian and Howard Bornstein, who both "telecommute from
Woodstock to their California jobs at "Institute for the Future".
Both Kathi and Howard have joined HVT&C and have some great ideas
for future programs.
As a special treat at the March meeting, Bill Pfleging, Minda's husband,
spoke about his experience with managing telecomuters. Bill will be presenting
at our April 9th meeting on Virtual Communities look at our Forums,
which Bill set-up).
New small business members include Robert
Derwa of Derwae Associates, who specializes in business communications.
Welcome aboard all new members.
New Board Members: After the meeting, Bill
Pfleging and Mark Tourtellot were elected as new Board members.
Mark is our new websmaster and did a great job in revising and updating
our new HVT&C website (check it out, its wonderful..) Mark is also
directing our "Wired for Wireless" project, whereby we are attempting
to facilitate wiring venues in the area for high-speed wireless access.
We are currently looking for grants to help finance same (note: with our
new non-profit status, we are eligible to get grants; anyone with grant
writing experience or interest, please contact me).
We are sorry to lose Michael Kilpatrick of Oxclove, who resigned from
the Board. Mike, the former President/CEO of Webwerker, was a co-founder
of the HVT&C and helped to launch us over the past 2 years. Thank
you Michael for your years of dedicated service.
Other New HVT&C Pilot Projects:
Through our virtual community link, we have recently launched a Virtual
Ride Board to help facilitate carpooling in the HV. With gas prices pushing
$2 per gallon, and traffic and mass transit worse then ever, we are hoping
to help reduce oil consumption and pollution and save our local environment.
Its a also a good way to meet fellow HVT&C'ers. We are looking for
a sponsor to help publicize the service and to upgrade the software and
site.
Upcoming Calendar (monthly meetings):
April 9th: Bill Pfleging (Billsville.com) on Virtual
Communities
May 14th: Special Panel on "New Technology in the
Recording Studio"
